Crusoe's mission is to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. We’re crafting the engine that powers a world where people can create ambitiously with AI — without sacrificing scale, speed, or sustainability.

Be a part of the AI revolution with sustainable technology at Crusoe. Here, you'll drive meaningful innovation, make a tangible impact, and join a team that’s setting the pace for responsible, transformative cloud infrastructure.

About This Role:

As theDirector, State Policy, you will lead the strategic development and execution of Crusoe’s legislative agenda at the state-level across Crusoe’s multi-state footprint. You are a seasoned advocate who understands that the most effective policy work happens at the intersection of business goals and the public interest. You will be responsible for navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of AI regulation, data privacy, and energy sustainability, ensuring that our innovations are supported by a stable and forward-thinking policy environment.

What You’ll Be Working On:

  • Strategic Advocacy: Develop and execute multi-state strategies to advance policy goals. Proactively identify legislative trends and develop "playbooks" to mitigate risks.

  • Government Relations: Build and maintain high-level relationships with Governors, State Attorneys General, Legislators, and key agency leaders (e.g., Public Utility Commissions).

  • Internal Advisory: Act as a "Policy-as-a-Service" state lead for internal teams (Legal, Engineering, and Finance). Translate complex state laws into actionable guidance cross-functionally

  • Coalition Leadership: Partner with the local + economic development + community teams to drive industry trade associations and third-party engagement. Build "unlikely coalitions" to drive consensus on complex topics like energy grid modernization and AI ethics.

  • Lobbyist Management: Direct and evaluate a network of external consultants and contract lobbyists to ensure strict alignment with corporate ethics and strategic ROI.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Experience: 8–12+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or law. Experience in the energy, tech, or infrastructure sectors is highly preferred.

  • Sector Expertise: Previous experience navigating policy for data centers, renewable energy, or emerging technologies (AI/ML).

  • Legal Acumen: Advanced degree in Public Policy or JD a plus. Ability to analyze and draft complex legislative text.

  • Communication: Proven ability to simplify highly technical concepts for non-technical policymakers.

  • Bipartisan Network: A demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the political spectrum.

  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in passing (or defeating) significant legislation or navigating high-stakes regulatory proceedings.

  • Communication: Exceptional writing and public speaking skills; ability to distill complex technical issues into compelling narratives for non-technical policymakers.

  • Political Acumen: A deep understanding of state-level political dynamics and the ability to work effectively on both sides of the aisle.

  • Travel: Ability to travel frequently to state capitals (up to 50% during legislative sessions).

Benefits:

  • Industry competitive pay

  • Restricted Stock Units in a fast growing, well-funded technology company

  • Health insurance package options that include HDHP and PPO, vision, and dental for you and your dependents

  • Employer contributions to HSA accounts

  • Paid Parental Leave

  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability

  • Teladoc

  • 401(k) with a 100% match up to 4% of salary

  • Generous paid time off and holiday schedule

  • Cell phone reimbursement

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • Subscription to the Calm app

  • MetLife Legal

  • Company paid commuter benefit; $300 per month

Compensation:

Compensation will be paid in the range of $164,000 - $205,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
