About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

Supply Chain Lead, Data Center Infrastructure

About the role

Anthropic is rapidly scaling our compute infrastructure to support the development of safe and beneficial AI systems. We're looking for a Supply Chain Lead to build and lead our data center infrastructure supply chain function from the ground up. This role is critical to ensuring we can secure the mechanical, electrical, and structural materials needed to build world-class data centers—on time and at competitive prices.

You'll be responsible for developing a comprehensive supply chain strategy for MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) equipment, steel, and other long-lead items that enable our data center construction programs. This is not a role for managing an existing playbook—you'll be creating the strategy, processes, and vendor relationships that will support Anthropic's infrastructure growth for years to come.

This individual contributor role reports to the Head of Data Center Infrastructure and operates with significant autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy for data center infrastructure, including MEP equipment, steel, structural components, and other long-lead materials (excluding IT equipment)

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to translate demand forecasts into forward-looking procurement requirements and supply chain plans

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand future design criteria and anticipate material and equipment needs for upcoming builds

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new vendors, assessing their capabilities, capacity, financial stability, and ability to deliver on schedule

  • Build relationships with key suppliers to secure favorable allocation and priority during periods of constrained supply

  • Negotiate contracts and pricing structures that balance cost, quality, and supply security

  • Build programs that enable construction partners to secure equipment at competitive prices while meeting aggressive delivery timelines

  • Oversee construction partners' own procurement plans to avoid risk

  • Define procurement quality requirements and hold construction partners accountable end-to-end — from engineering specification approval prior to order commitment through appropriate acceptance verification (eg FAT or quality inspections) at delivery

  • Develop risk mitigation strategies to address supply chain disruptions, single-source dependencies, and market volatility

  • Create and maintain visibility into supply chain performance through metrics, dashboards, and reporting

  • Stay current on market conditions, lead times, and emerging technologies relevant to data center construction

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have 8-12 years of experience in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, or procurement, with significant experience in data center, industrial construction, or infrastructure projects

  • Have experience procuring MEP equipment (generators, switchgear, cooling systems, etc.), structural steel, or other long-lead construction materials

  • Have built supply chain programs or functions from scratch, rather than solely operating within established frameworks

  • Can work effectively with internal demand forecasts and translate them into actionable procurement strategies

  • Have strong vendor evaluation and negotiation skills, with a track record of securing favorable terms and reliable supply

  • Are comfortable working autonomously and making strategic decisions with limited precedent

  • Can communicate effectively with technical teams (engineering) and business stakeholders alike

  • Are highly organized and can manage multiple workstreams across different stages of development

  • Thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities evolve and require adaptability

Strong candidates may also have

  • Direct experience supporting hyperscale data center construction programs

  • Relationships with major MEP equipment manufacturers or distributors

  • Experience with supply chain risk management and developing multi-source strategies

  • Background in construction management, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related technical fields

  • Experience working at rapidly scaling technology or infrastructure companies

  • Familiarity with sustainability considerations in data center equipment sourcing

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
